6/22/2023 0 Comments Powerhead vs wavemakerOne of the reasons people like aquariums is because they’re great to watch. They make your aquarium into a more pleasing site.Without these currents, the debris can gather in the dead spots, and they can be really ugly to look at. When you have currents in the water, at least these things are spread out. In between your maintenance intervals, your water begins to contain an increasing amount of unpleasant detritus like fish waste and uneaten food. Waves keep bad stuff from accumulating.(Yes, fish breathe oxygen, just in case you were absent in school when they taught that particular lesson.) Since you have a wave maker in your tank system, you can make sure that every cubic inch of the tank contains fresh oxygen. For the fish, they’re unhealthy as they may not contain fresh oxygen. The dead spots are the areas in the water that doesn’t move. And they can only do so in your reef tank when you have devices that provide the necessary water movement. Since the coral and the other invertebrates can’t really move towards their nutrients, the nutrients will have to come to them. Even if you just have a reef tank and invertebrates, a wave maker or a powerhead is still useful.
